Birmingham’s Swim Deep are one of the UK’s brightest new things, and their new single “King City” is a testament to that. Visions of Arcade Fire and MGMT might swim around in your head, while singer Austin Williams has an affable voice with the silky distinction of Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig. Sad that I had to namedrop three popular indie bands to describe this one, but once you hear it I doubt you’ll disagree.
Oh and there’s a indie reference in the lyrics. The “Jenny Lee Lindberg” Williams fantasizes about having as a girlfriend is the bassist in Warpaint.
